With the support of the CJAAA, the JAWAUCB, and a small group of senior Japanese American Alumni, UC Berkeley luncheon group, we did it! The blooming is annual, but the project is forever and we encourage all Japanese American Alumni, family and friends, to enjoy it especially when they bloom.

Before any trees were planted, over 2,000 pieces of mail were sent to potential donors and sponsors. From site preparation ($4,000) to planting ($125,000), the estimated total project cost was $350,000.​



We started our fundraising efforts with an initial mail campaign in December 2011 and set a lofty deadline to meet our project goal by March 31, 2012. By February 2012, we were more than half way towards our goal, and we were more than confident we would make our deadline and the cherry trees would be planted as scheduled.

 

From the generosity of funds and services from supporters of this project, we can now enjoy an everlasting view of the Japanese cherry trees.
