The Cherry Tree Project took roots through a gallant and visionary effort of a group of Japanese American alumni of the University of California. We are excited about the legacy provided as a result of countless gifts of time, efforts, and donations that ultimately helped plant a grove of Japanese Cherry Trees at the west entrance to UC Berkeley campus in tribute to persons of Japanese ancestry who attended the University of California system.

Thank you to the California Japanese American Alumni (CJAAA), the Japanese American Women Alumnae of UC Berkeley (JAWAUCB), and to UC Berkeley. We did it!

Once upon a time George and Bill planted a Japanese Cherry Tree seed. It laid dormant for several years until Asa and Kaz, along with the landscape firm of Royston, Hanamoto, Alley, and Abey (RHAA), and Jim, UC Berkeley Landscape architect nurtured it.

It started to germinate and even multiplied into a grove of cherry trees.

WELCOME TO THE CHERRY TREE PROJECT

Finally!

This didn't happen overnight!
